Whether you've just joined us, or you've been here a while, we want to start by saying thank you. By being on this mailing list you're helping us to spread the voice of the ocean far and wide. True Ocean Activism, for a thriving ocean, thriving people.
This week, in this heat, we need to protect our blue spaces more than ever.
60% of Europe is now under warnings for drought and wildfires are raging. Hose pipe bans are being proposed all whilst water companies leak 2.4billion litres [[link removed]] of water every day in England alone. These profiteering water companies continue to reward execs and shareholders with bonuses in their millions, whilst our water infrastructures crumble.
This can only be solved with accountability and investment. Our government and fat-cat water bosses need to step up. We won't tolerate this.
That's why we're members of Wildlife and Countryside Link, who have shared a blueprint for a sustainable and resilient water supply, here [[link removed]].
We're so close to 40,000 signatures. Have you signed our petition [[link removed]]?
A thriving ocean needs thriving rivers. Each week we're greeted with new stories of rivers being treated like open sewers [[link removed]], and water companies being fined [[link removed]] millions that barely dent their profits.
It won't change until we make it. That's why we're demanding 200 river bathing waters. Bathing Water Designation creates blue spaces where water quality is officially monitored for harmful bacteria and viruses, with legal obligations placed on industry to stop sewage and agricultural pollution.
I'LL SIGN TO SAVE OUR RIVERS ✊ [[link removed]]
The government is currently consulting on the introduction of five Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs), the first of their kind in the UK.
These are regions in the Ocean where fishing, dredging, and fossil fuel extraction are banned. At the moment, the strongest protections for the Ocean around the UK are much more lenient and only protect specific elements, like seagrass.
Highly protected marine areas will put an end to this. We'll let you know when we hear more.
In the meantime, read more about our ocean recovery goals on our website. [[link removed]]
Our ocean activist pin badge - for free!
Whatever your connection to the ocean is, it never leaves you.
Ocean Activism doesn't just mean signing petitions or protesting outside parliament. It's about being part of a community of ocean lovers taking a stand however they can. Sometimes, it's as simple as wearing a pin.
