AG Merrick Garland Announces He Approved the Raid at Trump’s Home, Looking to Unseal Warrant and Items Taken

Spencer Brown: Merrick Garland announced — in a delayed press conference — on Thursday that the Department of Justice instructed Florida authorities to unseal the search warrant obtained to raid former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago retreat, along with a property receipt showing items seized by the FBI during their hours-long search of Trump’s “Southern White House.” Biden’s attorney general also explained that he “personally approved” seeking the warrant that led to the raid on the former president’s home, something Garland said his department does not take “lightly” (Townhall). Newsmax: Attorney General Merrick Garland announces that the Department of Justice has filed a request to unseal a search warrant related to the Mar-a-Lago raid which he personally approved (Twitter). RNC Research: Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland takes no questions after delivering a statement on the FBI raiding President Trump’s home (Twitter). Mike Pompeo: AG Garland says DOJ applies the law evenly to all Americans. But this is simply not true. DOJ is investigating scores of attacks on pro-life pregnancy clinics. Not a single arrest has been made. But when a Planned Parenthood clinic was attacked, they made an arrest in 4 days (Twitter).

Million-Dollar Ad Campaign Launched by Conservative Advocacy Group: AG Garland “Should uphold the law”

Fox News: The Judicial Crisis Network (JCN), a Conservative judicial advocacy organization, launched a million-dollar ad buy against Attorney General Merrick Garland for “cowering to the woke mob.” According to a press release touting the spot, the ad “exposes Garland for turning on his longtime former colleague and friend” Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh “in the name of politics” to appease “the woke mob.” Carrie Severino, the president of JCN, bashed Garland for putting the lives of Kavanaugh and the other Supreme Court justices in danger by not stopping the stream of “left-wing radicals” protesting outside of their homes (Fox News). National Review: Fifty-eight percent of Americans agree Garland should enforce the law prohibiting protests at the homes of Supreme Court justices, while 61 percent believe the protests undermine American democracy, a recent JCN poll found (National Review).

White House Touts Lower Gas Prices Despite Prices Being 67 Percent Higher Than When Biden Took Office

Wall Street Journal: The national average dipped to $3.99 a gallon Wednesday afternoon and continued to trend lower on Thursday, according to OPIS, an energy-data and analytics provider. It is the first time since March that the average price of gasoline has been below $4 a gallon, giving drivers some reprieve as the rate of inflation remains near a four-decade high. Gas prices in the U.S. set a record of $5.02 in June, according to data from OPIS. The fuel-price surge has been a big factor in overall inflation, according to economists. And as consumers feel the pinch, they tend to reduce consumption (Wall Street Journal). Daily Wire: Nevertheless, gasoline was $2.39 per gallon in late January 2021 — meaning that current prices are 67% higher than at the beginning of Biden’s term, with more than 70% of the total increase occurring before the Russian invasion. Top officials in the White House spun the development as a victory for Biden. National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, for instance, told CNN that the somewhat lower prices reflect “meaningful savings people are going to feel in their lives,” adding that consumers can expect prices to “fall a bit more” (Daily Wire).

Poll: Liz Cheney Down 30 Points Leading Up to Wyoming’s Tuesday Primary

Spencer Brown: GOP Rep. Liz Cheney’s fight for political survival comes down to Tuesday’s primary in Wyoming, and a final survey released this week shows her challenge of beating Republican Trump-endorsed challenger Harriet Hageman has become even more insurmountable (Townhall). Byron York: Polls keep getting worse for Liz Cheney in Wyoming GOP primary. New University of Wyoming survey has Cheney down 30 points to challenger Harriet Hageman among likely voters (Twitter). Fox News: But there’s a feeling among Cheney’s team of supporters that her crusade against Trump this year as she runs for re-election will improve her national name recognition and bolster any potential 2024 Republican presidential nomination campaign by the congresswoman (Fox News).

National Association of Realtors Data: Median Home Prices Soar Past $400,000 for First Time

Wall Street Journal: Home prices continued to climb across nearly all the U.S. in the second quarter, when buyer demand started to fade due to higher mortgage rates but still exceeded the housing market’s unusually low supply. The median sales price was higher in the quarter compared with a year ago for 184 of the 185 metro areas tracked, the National Association of Realtors said Thursday. More of the country also experienced double-digit-percentage price gains than earlier in the year. Median prices rose by more than 10% from a year earlier in 80% of the 185 metro areas, up from the first quarter when 70% of metro areas reported double-digit-percentage growth. Home prices have hit new highs in recent months as the inventory of homes for sale held below historical levels (Wall Street Journal). New York Post: Data showed that first-time homebuyers spent a whopping 36.8% of their family income on monthly mortgage payments during the second quarter. That number was up from 28.7% just one quarter earlier. The median cost of a single-family existing home surged 14.2% year-over-year to $413,500 in the second quarter, according to the latest data from the National Association of Realtors. The median price topped $400,000 for the first time on record in the organization’s data tracking (New York Post).

CDC Relaxes Covid Protocols, Denmark Bans Vax for Children

CNN: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the nation should move away from restrictive measures such as quarantines and social distancing and focus on reducing severe disease from Covid-19. In new guidelines released Thursday, the agency no longer recommends staying at least 6 feet away from other people to reduce the risk of exposure — a shift from guidance that had been in place since the early days of the pandemic (CNN). AP: The changes, which come more than 2 1/2 years after the start of the pandemic, are driven by a recognition that an estimated 95% of Americans 16 and older have acquired some level of immunity, either from being vaccinated or infected, agency officials said (AP). Denmark is going even further, essentially banning Covid shots for kids. Dennis Prager: So, here’s a headline, a statement from the Danish government… “Children and young people only very rarely become seriously ill from Covid-19 with the Omicron variant. Therefore, from 1 July, 2022, it will no longer be possible for children and young people under the age of 18 to get the first jab. And from 1 September, 2022, it will no longer be possible to get the second jab.”… Did you hear the words? “Will no longer be possible.” The Danish government is outlawing this so-called vaccine to children under the age of 18 in all of Denmark (Daybreak Daily).

North Dakota School Board Votes to Forgo Saying Pledge of Allegiance Before Meetings

Contention is over “under God.” New York Post: A North Dakota school board has nixed reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before each meeting — deciding it didn’t align with the district’s values. The Fargo School Board voted 7-2 Tuesday to drop the Pledge from the start of its bi-weekly meetings because members didn’t feel it was inclusive, apparently taking issue with the phrase: “under God.” Board member Seth Golden said that because “the word ‘God’ in the text of the Pledge of Allegiance is capitalized … the text is clearly referring to the Judeo-Christian god and therefore, it does not include any other faith such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, all of which are practiced by our staff and students.” Holden also said it excluded those in Fargo schools who don’t believe in god (New York Post). Fox News: Another board member, Nyamal Dei, who came to the U.S. at the age of 10, emphasized the diversity of the community. “We live in a diverse community, and that is what matters,” she said.  Dr. Tracie Newman, president of the board, said that given how “politically charged and divisive” the issue was, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance may not be a “useful” way to begin the school board meetings (Fox News).

Elite, All-Female Nashville School to Allow Any Student Who Identifies as Female

New York Post: Harpeth Hall, an elite girls school in Nashville, Tennessee, has implemented a new policy to allow applications from anyone who identifies as female, not just those who are biologically female. In an email sent to parents, the school announced it would be following a new policy that allows biological males who identify as female to be admitted to the school. The email included a “Gender Diversity Philosophy” document explaining the admissions policy (New York Post). Harpeth Hall: As the world evolves, so do our students. The concept of gender has expanded and deepened over time. The members of our school community have asked good and important questions about gender inclusion and have looked for greater clarity on the school’s practices. Harpeth Hall’s administration, faculty, and the DEI Committee of the Board of Trustees have come together to discuss and more deeply understand gender diversity (Harpeth Hall). Outkick: If you’re a boy but you “feel” like a girl, congratulations and welcome to Harpeth Hall – an elite all-girls school in Nashville that has gone full woke (Twitter).

McDonald’s to Reopen Some Ukraine Restaurants

Wall Street Journal: McDonald’s Corp. will reopen some of its locations in Ukraine, roughly six months after Russia’s invasion of the country caused the fast-food chain to pause its operations there. “We have decided to institute a phased plan to reopen some restaurants in Kyiv and western Ukraine, where other businesses have safely reopened,” Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s corporate senior vice president for international operated markets, said in an email message to employees. Ukraine’s foreign minister hailed McDonald’s decision, saying it was the result of long negotiations between the company and the Ukrainian government (Wall Street Journal).

Whole Foods CEO Warns: “Socialists are taking over”

Fox News: Whole Foods founder and CEO John Mackey complained that “socialists are taking over” the U.S. in a Thursday podcast appearance. Mackey made the statement during a podcast with Reason Magazine. Mackey has a history of criticizing socialist policies and has adopted the term “conscious capitalism” to describe his preferred approach to economics. “My concern is that I feel like socialists are taking over,” Mackey told host Nick Gillespie. “They’re marching through the institutions. They’re… taking over education. It looks like they’ve taken over a lot of the corporations. It looks like they’ve taken over the military. And it’s just continuing (Fox News). CBS: Mackey, who espouses the idea of “conscious capitalism” — which he describes as a management philosophy focused on ethical ways of doing business — also questioned the work ethic of younger Americans. “I feel like I’ve become my father. I don’t understand the younger generation — they don’t seem to want to work,” Mackey, 68, told Reason, saying that the enhanced unemployment benefits offered to people who lost jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic had make it hard for Whole Foods to find workers (CBS).
