The right to reproductive freedom – including the right to access safe, legal abortion care – is fundamental and must be protected. In their decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court failed to protect reproductive rights.

But California will not.

Today I joined Vice President Kamala Harris to talk about how we will protect reproductive freedom here in California and across the country – because we are not going to let anti-choice extremists make personal medical decisions about reproductive care.

Here’s what my office is doing to ensure that abortion remains safe and legal in California, and that those in need of abortion care find a haven in our state:

- Challenging unconscionable abortion bans across the country
- Ensuring compliance with health care and medical data privacy laws to protect patients’ privacy
- Advising people of the misleading tactics employed by so-called “crisis pregnancy centers”
- Issuing first-in-the-nation guidance to ensure the law is not misused to prosecute pregnancy loss
- Ensuring patient and provider security, including facilitating relationships and trainings with law enforcement and supporting efforts to ensure California law enforcement does not comply with other states’ efforts to criminalize abortion care
