If you have any question about what America will be like if Republicans
take control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November, look no
further than this week.

On Monday, the FBI executed a legally obtained warrant to raid Donald
Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, looking for classified documents that he
illegally took from the White House. In response, Republican extremists
went into overdrive with their violent online rhetoric—"This. Means. War."
"When does the shooting start?" "Summertime was made for killing
fields."^1

"We're at war," Steve Bannon said on his podcast.^2

Did Republican leaders condemn these calls for violence? Did they reserve
judgment until the evidence was presented? Did they hail law enforcement
for upholding the principle that no one is above the law?

No. Nope. And not even close.

Kevin McCarthy, who will become speaker of the House if the GOP takes
control, said he would launch an immediate investigation of the DOJ:
"Attorney General Garland … clear your calendar."^3 The No. 3 Republican
in the House, Elise Stefanik, said "There must be an immediate
investigation into" … wait for it … "Joe Biden. …"^4

This is the GOP Trump has fostered, and it is the GOP that will tear our
democracy to pieces if they regain the U.S. House of Representatives in 88
days.

will use their power to exact revenge on those trying to uphold the laws
of our country.

But we won't let that happen without a fight. That's why MoveOn has made
the unprecedented decision to invest $30 million in the 2022 midterms, the
largest amount in our history. We knew early on that this year was going
to be like no other, and we have been preparing for months to turn out
voters and win. From phone banks to texting to targeted digital ads to
microtargeted field campaigns focused on exactly the voters who will stop
Trump, we are ready.

alive. We fought for an America that holds up Black and brown voices, that
celebrates the humanity of LGBTQ+ youth and people of all ages, that sees
trans families and disabled people as our strength. In the coming months,
we must work to elect public servants who will uphold and strengthen these
values, and we must stand up to those who are hellbent on undermining it.
