The climate provisions in the Democrats' "Inflation Reduction Act" (which will do very little, if anything, to reduce inflation) are far too little and too late, while providing big breaks for fossil fuel profiteers.



There were a handful of proposed amendments in the Senate that would have strengthened climate action, access to healthcare, and support for working people, but let's see how much support those received during the weekend's "vote-a-rama:"



- Create a Civilian Climate Corps: 98 against, 1 in favor





- Cut the fossil fuel giveaways: 99 against, 1 in favor





- Expand Medicare to cover dental, vision and hearing: 97 against, 3 in favor





- Cut Medicare drug prices 50%: 99 against, 1 in favor





- Extend the Child Tax Credit that helped millions of families during the pandemic: 97 against, 1 in favor



Out of 48 senators who are members of the Democratic Party, that is a scandalously poor show of support for these obviously beneficial and progressive provisions. How could they not bring themselves to at least cast a symbolic vote for solutions to dire environmental, economic, and social crises?



These numbers don't lie: the Democrats do not care enough to even pretend to be a party that serves the 99%. Donate to the Green Party today — $5, $50, whatever you can afford — so we can break the corporate duopoly's stranglehold on our democracy. <[link removed]>
