Now that we’ve secured the Democratic nomination to represent Vermont in the U.S. Senate (thanks to your help!), we can now turn our full attention to this November’s election.

We officially know who our opponent is going to be too, and national Republicans—including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell—have already begun working behind the scenes to flip this seat red in their efforts to regain the majority.

We currently have a knife’s edge Senate, split 50/50. McConnell and the GOP have been angling for a return to power since the second they lost it, and if he becomes the Majority Leader again, there’s no chance we advance the progressive agenda our country needs for its future. If my opponent wins this November, he’ll be helping McConnell and the rest of their party give more tax cuts to the rich at the expense of working families.

I firmly believe in working across the aisle and finding common ground with your political opponents, but that’s proven to be a challenge when Mitch McConnell’s in power.

I’ve watched good bill after good bill pass the House only to die in the Senate because McConnell’s been more concerned with maintaining his party’s control over our government than following the will of the American people.

Right now he’s using the filibuster to gum up our democracy, abusing his power even while he’s in the minority. He can’t be trusted to be Majority Leader again, and I believe this grassroots movement has the strength to ensure that doesn’t happen.
