Friend,

The idea behind programs like Public Service Loan Forgiveness is simple: if you dedicate your career to serving your community, the government will forgive a significant portion of your federal student loans.

But too often, the arrangement doesn’t work. Restrictions and obstacles mean that few people qualify for the program, and fewer still can access the benefits they’ve been promised.

As someone in public service, you deserve full access to these programs. Have you ever tried to have your loan payments reduced or forgiven under an income-driven repayment plan or the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program? Did you succeed, or were you frustrated? AFSCME is creating a catalogue of stories in order to better advocate for you. We want to hear your story!

People in public service deserve respect for the work we do. Student loan forgiveness is an important part of that. Please let us know if you’ve tried to use these programs.

In solidarity,

Nicole Pollard
