Over the last six weeks the headlines have been dominated by issues such as Brexit, the NHS, public services, climate change, race and faith. The headlines were not about human rights, but human rights are at the heart of all these issues. That’s why we are looking forward to being back in Parliament to work with all parties to achieve real change for people’s lives. 

The government has committed to bringing in a Domestic Abuse Bill and we are looking forward to working together to ensure this bill protects the most vulnerable women.

Currently migrant women are unable to access lifesaving refuges and the support they need and 92% report being threatened with deportation by their abuser. All women must be able to access the specialist services they need in a safe environment and free from discrimination. 

Our top priorities: 

1. To keep the Human Rights Act intact
2. To support and protect women and girls facing domestic violence and abuse, especially migrant women

3. To get rid of the unfair rules that are keeping refugee families apart 

4. To bring Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe home from prison in Iran

5. To prioritise support and protection for human rights defenders 

This is just the start. For decades we have galvanised support from all political parties to achieve human rights change. As our country’s future is being defined, we know that our movement is as strong as ever and when we all act humanity wins.
