Conservative Boris Johnson Gains Stunning Victory in Britain
Biggest win since Thatcher in 1987 ( The Times). Detailed results ( BBC). From the Wall Street Journal: Beyond Brexit, voters faced an economic-policy choice between Mr. Johnson’s generally pro-business pitch and the aggressive socialism of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. The exit polls suggest Labour has won its lowest number of seats since the 1930s ( WSJ). From another story: Has any leading politician in modern times been the subject of so much vitriol as Boris Johnson? He has been written off as a liar, lazy and unreliable. Political commentators and comedians have feasted on his alleged weaknesses ( Daily Mail). From Hugh Hewitt: Ebullient. If @BorisJohnson acts with as much boldness as these results permit, he can unleash a transformative freedom agenda in the U.K. while also renewing the Atlantic Alliance. Just terrific. (And @HouseDems, note that @AOC endorsed @jeremycorbyn. By all means, press on.) ( Twitter). From Noah Rothman: If this plays out, two consecutive defeats should be the end of Mr. Corbyn’s leadership, which would be a welcome victory for Western civilization. Haven’t had one of those in a bit ( Twitter). Former mayor of London Ken Livingstone complained “ The Jewish vote wasn’t very helpful” ( Twitter). And it was good for the pound ( CNBC). From Dan Crenshaw: Congratulations Britain. Socialism was rebuked, while the fight for national sovereignty was reaffirmed. Wishing our friends across the pond a prosperous future! ( Twitter). Bernie Sanders’ team was pulling for the Labour Party ( Twitter). Some background on Boris Johnson ( Spectator). From Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report: If you’re a Dem who thinks your party doesn’t have much more room to fall outside of big cities, you need to tune into the BBC right now and disabuse yourself of that notion ( Twitter). Just for fun, from the Washington Post, 2017, an article explain why “ Corbyn’s success is a model for America Progressives” ( Washington Post).

Nadler Suddenly Delays Vote on Articles
And Senator Doug Collins was furious. Collins said “This is why people don’t like us. This crap like this is why people are having such a terrible opinion of Congress. What Chairman Nadler just did, and his staff, and the rest of the majority who sat there quietly and said nothing, this is why they don’t like us. They know it’s all about games. It’s all about the TV screens. They want the primetime hit. This is Speaker Pelosi and Adam Schiff and the others directing this committee. I don’t have a chairman anymore. I guess I need to just go straight to Ms. Pelosi and say, what TV hit does this committee need to do? This committee has lost all relevance. I’ll see y’all tomorrow” ( Fox News). In the middle of this impeachment talk, one Democrat was watching golf ( Fox News). It appears some moderate Democrats are still undecided on how they’ll vote ( ABC News). Democrat Abigail Spanberger was shouted down by anti-impeachment constituents at a town hall over the weekend ( Washington Examiner).
