I’m the son of an immigrant single mother. Growing up, my family relied on food assistance programs to survive.

I know what it takes to defy the odds and be the leader working people deserve. But most of all, I know that I didn’t get here by myself. I have my mom, my teachers, and my community to thank.

I see the same resilience and strength I had to have in Maxwell’s story.

A victim of the system and enmeshed in trying circumstances, Maxwell’s biological mother turned to drugs and crime while she was pregnant with him.

As a mother of seven without healthcare and the resources to support him, she made the difficult decision to put him up for adoption.

Maxwell is able to be where he is today – running to become the first Gen-Z member of Congress – because people like his biological mother and adoptive parents helped him.
