John -
The Senate took an important step forward to invest in climate solutions
when they passed the Inflation Reduction Act earlier this week.
This bill – which now moves to the House for a vote Friday – marks a
historic move from Congress to invest in the solutions needed to
transition our economy to renewable energy.
But before we can continue the important work to push for even more bold
climate actions from President Biden, we must ensure that this bill passes
through the House. If you agree that we need to get this bill passed,
please add your name today:

Here are some of the highlights from the bill:
* Allocates $369 billion to reduce America’s greenhouse gas emissions
and invest in renewable energy sources (a historic amount that
scientists estimate will lead to net reductions of 40% by 2030,
compared with 2005 levels)
* Lengthens the tax credits for green energy projects from two to ten
years to ensure steady growth in the wind and solar industry
* Provides incentives for consumers to buy electric vehicles
* Installs heat pumps to make green energy use more widespread
We know the bill is far from perfect, and we've got lots of work ahead of
us. However, the fact that it has gotten to this stage is a direct result
of people power,
John. 350.org and many other
partners in the climate movement have been organizing for years and years
— this step forward is a clear indicator that our movement building – your
movement building – is working.
And we cannot, and we will not, stop now. We will continue to build on our
power to ensure there are no dangerous side deals. In the coming weeks, we
will work full force to stop Manchin’s permitting deal aimed at making it
easier to build fossil fuel projects. We will push President Biden to use
the full power of the Presidency to take unilateral action to make up for
where this bill lacks – namely by declaring a Climate Emergency and
stopping the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
We are going to use our voices to open up a bigger political window of
opportunity to ensure we can and we will keep fossil fuels in the ground,
where they belong. But affirming each step along the path is important.^1
National climate legislation is a critical step, not only for this
country, but globally.
So first, let's make sure we show the House of Representatives how many
people are fighting for this bill to be passed. Can you help us send a
clear message to Congress today?

reinforce this historic piece of legislation.
Everything we don’t like about the IRA is a result of the fossil fuel
industry desperately fighting to avoid changing its business model. If we
can keep exposing and resisting them, we will never have another climate
bill written by a coal baron ever again.
Thank you for all of your support and activism that’s gotten us to this
point.
Let’s keep going.
