Hi John,
In the 20 years since NIAC was founded, we've led the fight to protect our community's rights and dignity.
In 2003, when the job hunting website Monster.com began denying access to and removing Iranian-American users and references to Iran in their resumes, NIAC stood up to the then-prominent company to demand justice – and succeeded in restoring access [[link removed]] .
In 2007, when a major motion picture featuring Sean Penn, Harrison Ford, and Ashley Judd depicted Iranian Americans as committing "honor killings" in the U.S., NIAC protested directly to the writers and secured corrections to the script [[link removed]] .
In 2012, when Apple store employees heard Iranian Americans speaking Persian, and cited sanctions as they refused to let them buy Apple products, NIAC challenged Apple directly and the company changed its practices [[link removed]] .
In 2015, when major U.S. universities attempted to ban Iranian students, NIAC confronted them [[link removed]] and forced the schools [[link removed]] to amend their policy and lift the ban.
In 2018, when we received numerous reports that the US Postal Service was preventing Iranian Americans from sending mail to relatives and loved ones in Iran, NIAC took action [[link removed]] , and the US government directed the Postal Service to accept mail to Iran.
In 2021, after NIAC had secured a written pledge from Joe Biden to lift the Muslim Ban on day one of his administration two years earlier on the campaign trail, the ban that prevented our family and friends from visiting us was finally lifted [[link removed]] .
We are so proud of our legacy of supporting community members in need and advocacy to fix the underlying policies impacting us.This is just a sample of the work NIAC has done over the past two decades to defend the rights of all Iranian Americans. But our work is far from over and we will continue to be the leading advocate for our community, unafraid and unapologetic, for the decades to come.
With that in mind, I invite you to join our 20th anniversary campaign to help us hit our fundraising goal of $2 million before the end of the year. We're almost there, and every single donation, whether large or small, will help us hit our goal and have the resources to continue fighting for you and growing stronger in the next 20 years.
Make A Contribution for our 20th [[link removed]]
We have relied on you and NIAC supporters across the country to build this organization and do this work – over 75% of our funding comes from individuals, with the rest coming from major U.S. foundations. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to keep fighting.
Thank you.
