Ted Budd is tripling down on his January 6 vote to overturn the 2020 election and giving a megaphone to fringe conspiracy theories. And The Charlotte Observer just called him out for it:

Here’s the background: He’s asked Cleta Mitchell, who The Charlotte Observer describes as “one of several lawyers who aided Trump in his scheme to overturn the 2020 election,” to host a six-figure fundraiser for him.

She participated in Trump’s call to demand the Georgia Secretary of State “find 11,780 votes,” openly peddled conspiracy theories after the election, and was reportedly with Trump personally on the day of the January 6 insurrection.

Ted Budd isn’t just flirting with extreme election deniers — he’s fully aligned with their anti-democratic agenda, and if he wins this race, he could vote to overturn the 2024 election if he doesn’t like the outcome.

Look, Ted Budd was asked about this fundraiser by reporters and given the chance to disavow and pretend to distance himself from this conspiracy theorist. His campaign instead said it was “great” and they were “thrilled” about it.

This host boasts close ties to Ginni Thomas and was at the heart of the effort to overturn the election. She’s still pushing racist and debunked theories and was even subpoenaed as part of a criminal investigation in Georgia about election interference.

This is the company Ted Budd proudly keeps. These are the people who fund his campaign, and they do it because they know he is one of their own.
