Dear Jack,
As the Tory Party continues its summer of navel-gazing, deciding
which of the two candidates its MPs have presented are the least bad,
we ask: Where are the policies we need to address the problems the
rest of us are facing, in the real world outside Westminster?
Britain is beset by big challenges, from the cost-of-living crisis
and unaffordable energy bills to the continuing battle over Brexit and
the war in Ukraine. But none of the mainstream parties, preoccupied
with slinging mud at one another, appear to have a single fresh idea
about how to deal with these problems.
That’s why we’re delighted to announce that we at Reform UK are
moving on with developing the policies that Britain needs. We’re
inviting you to apply to join our Policy Working Groups.
Through these Policy Working Groups, our members are directly
involved in discussing and developing policy on the big issues. This
is the kind of inner-party democracy that no other political
organisation in the UK can offer.
We have already made great progress with our groups working on the
issues of Police and Crime, Health and Education and Energy. Now we
need qualified people, with relevant real-life experience, to apply to
participate in the next round of Policy Working Groups.
-
Defence, National Security and Veterans. Russia’s
bloody war in Ukraine has brought home the challenges we face in a
fast-changing, unstable world. Britain needs defence forces and
strategies capable of rising to that challenge. And we need to find
better ways to look after our neglected service veterans.
-
Agriculture, Food and Fisheries. Brexit should be an
opportunity for Britain to become more self-sufficient in food, while
doing trade deals around the world. Yet from farmers to fishermen,
those working in this crucial sector face mounting problems and feel
badly let down. We can see from recent events in the Netherlands and
Sri Lanka that the same people who have driven energy prices up and
left us with potential shortages in the future now want to do the same
with our food. We need policy ideas to defend our nation's food
security.
-
Transport and Infrastructure. To encourage investment
and trade post-Brexit, our infrastructure must be first class. But the
recent debacles at airports, as well as our decrepit and expensive
railway system, leaves us miles behind comparable countries. Much of
our critical infrastructure, such as our water supply, remains
underinvested and foreign-owned. We need to drive it into the
future.
-
Political Reform. We solved one area of democratic
deficit by leaving the undemocratic EU. Now it's time to go much
further. From local government to the House of Lords, Britain
desperately needs political reform. We would like to explore the
possibilities of returning power to the people through fair voting
systems and Swiss-style Direct Democracy. We want full accountability
and transparency at every level of governance. We also remain 100%
committed to preserving the Union.
If you believe that you have the necessary experience and knowledge
to contribute to one of these Policy Working Groups, please apply by
clicking on the relevant buttons above and completing the form. Please
complete a form for every Policy Working Group for which you wish to
apply. Please complete a new form if you have already applied for
similar groups in the past, or have contacted our team already to
express interest in joining a Policy Working Group, to ensure your
application is considered.
This is a unique chance for our impressive Reform UK members to
play their part in developing the sort of policies Britain needs to
get us out of the crisis.
The old parties have let us down once too often. It’s time for
#SomethingDifferent. It’s time for Reform.
Best Wishes,
Reform UK Policy Team
