The centerpiece of the Health Affairs Journal Club meeting next week is
"Alcohol-Attributable Deaths Help Drive Growing Socioeconomic
Inequalities In US Life Expectancy
,"
which examines changes in US life expectancy between 2000 and 2018
attributable to alcohol.
Using a unique approach combining vital statistics and population survey
data, the authors find substantial disparities in alcohol-related
deaths, including from liver disease and cirrhosis, suicide, and motor
vehicle accidents, between individuals with and without college degrees.
On August 17, please join co-author Charlotte Probst of the University
of Toronto's Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, for a detailed
discussion of the paper's data, methods, and policy conclusions.
