------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Resident,

I am delighted to announce the return of The Erewash Jobs and Community Fair, which this year will be held at the Chatsworth Arts Centre and Duchess Theatre, Long Eaton on Tuesday 27th September 2022 between 10am & 4pm.

Following the Coronavirus Pandemic, as I go about my constituency work meeting local businesses and third sector organisations, including charities and voluntary groups, many have expressed an urgent need for a forum to help recruit new staff, attract apprentices, and replenish their volunteers.

In response, I am, once again, hosting the Erewash Jobs and Community Fair, with the aim of bringing together large and small local businesses as well as charities, voluntary groups and advice and support agencies all under one roof.

The Erewash Jobs and Community Fair will provide opportunities for:

- businesses to promote job vacancies and apprenticeship opportunities
- organisations to promote the services they offer such as advice on benefits and welfare, CV writing and interview techniques
- charities, voluntary organisations, including uniformed organisations and local sports clubs to promote the benefits of volunteering as a route to employment

Businesses and voluntary organisations across Erewash will shortly be receiving a letter including details of how to sign up to exhibit and I will then publish full details of the opportunities available prior to the fair in early September.

I hope that as many people as possible will be able to come to the Duchess Theatre and support this ambitious project on the day.

The hot weather continues, with temperatures set to sore to 37C over the coming days. The Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning coving our area, meaning that the latest heatwave is likely to effect likely affect health, transport and working conditions, in addition to issuing the highest alert for fire severity over the weekend, warning that there is an exceptional risk of blazes spreading in many places.

Residents should therefore take some basic steps to stay safe in the heat, including drinking plenty of water, staying indoors or in the shade during the hottest parts of the day, keep an eye on loved ones and neighbours who may be more vulnerable and most importantly applying suncream regularly thought the day.

In addition, because of the extreme fire risk, I want to reiterate the call from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue for members of the public to do the right thing and not use disposable barbeques or portable gas stoves in parks or the countryside and to pack a picnic instead.

Finally, tomorrow (Friday 12th August) is also the last day for people to vote for Derby to become the new home of Great British Railway. This is undoubtably a once in a generation opportunity for the City that will benefit the whole of our region, including Erewash, and will play a crucial part in the Government’s commitment to level up the UK. To cast your vote just go online at gbrtt.co.uk/hq-competition-public-vote and vote Derby!

With best wishes for the week ahead,
Maggie Throup MP
Member of Parliament for Erewash
