In a message to members, NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler highlighted the association’s recent advocacy initiatives on Capitol Hill regarding important credit union topics and encouraged credit unions to engage with lawmakers on two important pieces of legislation.
On a seasonally-adjusted basis, overall consumer prices were unchanged in July with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting the overall consumer price index (CPI) grew by 8.5 percent over the 12-month period, marking the slowest month-over-month growth in prices since April 2020. NAFCU, along with several other organizations, Tuesday filed an amicus brief with the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit arguing that the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires furnishers and consumer reporting agencies (CRAs) to investigate factual inaccuracies, not legal disputes. The group’s amicus brief comes in response to an amicus brief filed by the CFPB in April that argues data furnishers and CRAs should investigate legal disputes in addition to factual disputes.
