Dear VCC Community,
I’ve just returned from a couple of weeks of visiting with family and friends. From all outward appearances life is mostly back to normal. Yet, those of us who have experienced the tyranny of the last two years know that we are not back to normal. It’s amazing how deceptive outward appearances can be.
I found it interesting with the visit by the Pope how we are able to acknowledge the harms of past discrimination, yet fail to recognize the discrimination that exists in the moment. We need to understand how we are so vulnerable to being manipulated, coerced, and divided. A number of the articles this week shed light on this topic.
Ultimately what is needed is a rise in human consciousness. Brian Peckford has stated on multiple occasions - “Democracy can only exist in a moral society.” The last two years have revealed how far away we are from a moral society. There is no easy way out of this mess, only honest and brutal self-reflection.

We Lost a Good Friend

With summer activities, some may have not read the sad news of the passing of Eloa Doner. Eloa was an amazing VCC volunteer, dedicating countless hours to the VCC community. When community members needed support, resources, anything, Eloa was always there to help in any way she could. She selflessly gave thousands of hours to the cause while battling her own health issues and caring for a special needs child. A fundraiser has been set up to help Eloa's family cover funeral expenses. If you are able to, please consider donating. This fundraiser has been authorized by VCC.
