John, we're calling on Greg Abbott to formally accept Beto's invitation to three town hall-style debates this fall. If you agree that Abbott must answer directly to Texans for his indefensible record, will you chip in $3 now to show that Beto has a grassroots movement behind him calling for these important debates?
Here’s how we got to this moment:
FIRST: Abbott's team said the governor would NOT debate Beto unless "it's a competitive race."
THEN: Abbott's lead plummeted by 10 points since Beto joined the race — causing The New York Times to call it "the most competitive since Democrats last held that office in the 1990s."
NOW: Abbott knows that Beto has the momentum so he's trying to hide from being held accountable by Texans — and Beto — by only agreeing to ONE debate on a Friday night.
While Beto has held 80 town hall meetings where he has answered over 500 questions, Abbott has not held public town halls where he takes questions in person during the general election. One debate in one community (on a Friday night!) for the entire state of Texas is not nearly enough. The people of Texas deserve better.
