The misnamed Inflation Reduction Act was passed in the Senate and will be voted on in the House this week. The bill proposes to reduce the deficit and lower inflation by increasing taxes, but it will fail to do what its name claims and its congressional supporters advertise. According to preliminary estimates from the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM), this bill would actually increase inflation for the next two years.

Even as the latest busload of migrants from Texas arrived in D.C. with a total of at least 5,100 migrants and leaders like the mayor of New York and the mayor of D.C. complain about the influx of immigrants in their cities, the Biden administration does not seem to find its footing on the issue of immigration. Rather than “doing something” simply to appease political allies, the White House and all U.S. leaders should address the core of our immigration crisis. Read more.

Non-Union Job Wages Far Outpacing Union Wages

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), workers in non-union jobs saw increased wages compared to their unionized counterparts. The BLS’s June 2022 employment cost index revealed total wage and benefits costs for private sector jobs rose 5.5% from June 2021 to June 2022. Non-unionized workers saw their wages and salaries increase 6%, compared to a 3.4% wage increase for unionized workers. So much for the argument that union workers are better paid. Read more.
