John, I wanted to update you all on a round-up of recent victories we’ve had on the Hill.
July has been an amazing month for Congress, as it's been a time of major headway, unprecedented change, and staggering success. From climate change to the economy, here on the Hill, Democrats are wasting no time making our country work for everyone. But before I reflect on our progress, I need your help.
Here are just a few recent strides Congress has taken:
The CHIPS and Science Act will boost efforts to manufacture more zero-carbon technology in America, establish a new federal office to organize clean-energy innovation, and direct billions of dollars toward disaster-resilience research.
The July Economy and Jobs Report shows that U.S. job growth accelerated in July across nearly all industries, restoring nationwide employment to its pre-pandemic level.
The Inflation Reduction Act passed the Senate and is coming to the House. The IRA includes measures to foster job creation, allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug pricing, expand the Affordable Care Act, and invest more funds to combat climate change than in U.S. history. In the House, the IRA is set to have a smooth and easy passage.
An assault weapons ban passed the House. This ban, which prohibits the sale, manufacturing, transfer, possession, or importing of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition, is a historic one, not seen since 2004, which is a big step in the fight to end the epidemic of gun violence in our country.
The House passed a contraception bill that ensures access to contraception nationwide, despite united Republican opposition.
This kind of progress is groundbreaking. It’s the result of hard work, dedication, and of course, teamwork. But unfortunately, even with these major wins, Republicans are fighting our progress every step of the way. The only way to continue our progress is to hold our Democratic majority this November.
As a Cuyahoga County Council member and Chairwoman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, Shontel Brown has spent the last decade serving the people of Ohio and building coalitions. Now, as the Congresswoman for Ohio’s 11th District, she will fight for affordable quality health care, jobs that pay fair wages, a strong public education system, and equity and justice for all. Will you join her and be the change we need?
