Organized Retail Crime is a $2.7 billion problem in Washington.

It is more than a major economic issue — it is harmful and traumatic for workers. For example, in March, an assailant took a store employee hostage during a robbery before being shot by a security guard.

Organized Retail Crime also puts consumers at risk — especially new parents. One of the most common items stolen by retail crime rings is baby formula, which is then sold online for profit. Parents who buy this stolen formula online unknowingly risk their babies’ health because the formula may not be stored at the correct temperature, or its expiration date may be altered.

In order to address this ongoing issue, I formed the first statewide Organized Retail Crime Task Force in Washington. More than 100 individuals attended the first meeting, including representatives from police departments, prosecutors, retailers, labor unions, and the FBI and U.S. Attorneys, to discuss strategies to improve coordination and collaboration to help make Washingtonians safer.

If you support ending organized retail crime rings that threaten the safety and economic well-being of Washingtonians, will you make a contribution of $ or more to my campaign today? My Task Force is not focused on petty shoplifting or poverty-based crime. We are committed to improving our state’s response to organized criminal enterprises that steal in order to resell products for a profit.

Combating these sophisticated, organized retail crime rings will improve the well-being of Washington’s consumers and employees alike.

If you support this important work, please make a contribution today to show that Washington is united against this dangerous, organized crime. [[link removed]]
