Last week, Indiana’s Republican-led state legislature passed a near-total ban on abortion – the first state to have passed a new abortion ban since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June.

Now, other states around the country are looking to follow Indiana Republicans’ example, with extreme provisions such as threatening jail time to doctors for providing abortions and other forms of medical care.

The extreme actions of state-level Republicans have shown us that the Republican Party will do everything in its power to ban reproductive choice and abortion access.

But they don’t get the final say – because local leaders have the power to decide how healthcare criminalization is enforced.

This November, if we elect pro-choice leaders to office as our district attorneys and city council members, we’ll have the power to combat Republicans’ dangerous abortion restrictions and make our communities safer for everyone.
