[Children in Kentucky] need everything. There's nothing they don't need. Basic necessities, water, a place to live. They need schools to be up and running in a safe way that protects their education and their mental health. Support children in Kentucky now [link removed]
I just returned from Perry County, Kentucky, where I saw firsthand how Save the Children is supporting communities in the wake of deadly and destructive flooding.Their teams are providing comfort, care and essential supplies to families who’ve lost nearly everything.
What I saw there was devastating: schools and houses completely destroyed by floodwaters and roads washed away by mudslides. We visited Robinson Elementary, once a beautiful school that is now completely ruined by this disaster. The destruction in the library was just unimaginable, with mud everywhere and thousands of books destroyed.
But I also saw this community’s contributions hard at work, making a tangible difference for children and families in this critical moment.Save the Children is delivering everything from hot meals and bottled water to hygiene kits, diapers, wipes and cribs. They’re also providing art activity kits, games and toys to give children a chance to be kids again during this difficult time.
But this work is far from over, and as Save the Children works to meet the immediate and long-term needs of Kentucky’s children, this community’s continued support is so important. So I'm personally asking, please, will you donate to Save the Children’s Eastern Kentucky Flood Crisis Fund to ensure that we can continue to reach families in need of critical support? : [link removed]
I grew up in West Virginia, less than 200 miles from the eastern Kentucky communities that are still reeling from this disaster. My heart breaks for the families like yours and mine whose lives were turned upside down in an instant, and for the children whose education was already disrupted by the pandemic. They're now facing yet another year of uncertainty.
Thankfully, Save the Children’s roots run deep in Kentucky.Their teams have worked in the hardest-to-reach communities for decades, which means they’re well-positioned to provide urgent relief today. They’re currently working with local communities to assess the damage and help get our partner schools and child care centers back up and running as soon as possible.
