Friend,
It's almost been one year since we all watched the devastation that millions of Afghan families endured after their country's abrupt shift in power last August.
When the crisis escalated, the IRC was committed to staying in Afghanistan to continue our work for those most in need. And thanks to supporters like you, more children, women and families can access more lifesaving services from our teams within the past year than ever before.
Today, I'm writing to share with you 3 ways supporters like you have helped us expand our programs in Afghanistan this year.

Over the past year, we have:
Increased our female staff — While other organizations decreased the number of women in their humanitarian response because of the new restrictions against women, our teams fought to recruit and retain female staff members — ensuring at least 40 percent of our staff are women.
Expanded cash programming — We've expanded our cash programming to help families meet each area of need including food, emergency supplies, health care, and work. Whether we're helping them reach a far-away hospital or starting their own pickle business (true story!) we got them covered.
Brought health care to the most remote places — We've sent mobile health teams to the most remote communities to deliver lifesaving medical assistance — including one team of incredibly courageous women.

Amna Gul is one of these women working with the IRC. She's a 25-year-old provincial health manager who helped create the first female-led mobile health team to focus on reaching remote communities—especially focusing on women and girls.
"The proudest point in my job is serving my people — the people of Afghanistan. Especially the women who are not able to go to healthcare facilities because of transportation, financial condition and Mahram [needing a male chaperone to receive care from a male healthcare worker]," Amna said.
We are so proud to be able to support people like Amna Gul. And we hope you are too. She is just one of the many wonderful people that Afghans in these communities can meet because you believe in her life saving work.
Our teams are there to stay as long as we're needed. And thanks to you, we can.
Thank you for staying with us. Together, we can help people in Afghanistan and beyond survive, recover and regain control of their futures.
— Hank, IRC Communications
