Dear John,
With the 2022 primary elections underway, we are seeing an urgent need for poll workers to ensure our elections run smoothly. Poll workers support early voting locations, ensure technology functions, and help minimize long lines and delays at polling places on Election Day.
The American Sustainable Business Network is proud to partner with Power the Polls, a first-of-its-kind nonpartisan initiative to recruit poll workers to ensure a safe, fair and efficient election for all voters.
In 2020, America faced a record shortage of poll workers. Across the country, election administrators are already reporting poll worker shortages for the 2022 election cycle. These shortages threaten access to the ballot box by leading to polling location closures and long lines, especially in communities of color and low income communities.
This year, ASBN and Power the Polls plan to turn the tide on our nation’s poll worker shortage, but we need your help. We are asking our members and partner organizations to help protect our democracy by signing up to be a poll worker — and potentially get paid in the process. Poll workers are critical to help maintain safe in-person voting for communities without reliable access to mail service, voters with disabilities, voters who need language assistance, or for voters who simply want to cast their ballot in-person as they always have.
Once you’ve signed up, depending on your jurisdiction, you will either be contacted by Power the Polls, a partner organization, or your local election administrators regarding your application.
The process to become a poll worker can be a bit complicated, but don’t worry – the Power the Polls team will help you along the way. In the coming weeks, Power the Polls will provide you with more information about the application process and what to expect when you become a poll worker.
In the meantime, please encourage your friends and family to join you and help ensure a safe and fair election. Also, please keep in mind that a poll worker must be 17 years of age or older – so for those that want to be involved but are not yet 18, this may be a way to make a difference in your state!
Join us as we protect democracy and the voices of our families, friends and neighbors this election season. Sign up to be a poll worker today!
