Last night, Mandela Barnes officially became our Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

He is a great candidate who needs our support. He is Wisconsin’s first Black Lieutenant Governor, and he is running as a strong progressive, just like my friend Sen. Tammy Baldwin did when she won in 2018. He’s also been personally impacted by gun violence, losing multiple friends to senseless tragedies. He will not hesitate to help us end the filibuster and cast the decisive 51st vote for progress — on gun violence, abortion rights and beyond.

Today is a huge moment for his campaign, and it marks the official start of the general election in Wisconsin — one of the most flippable seats in the country. So I am personally reaching out to ask you to support his campaign.

If you can afford it, please consider splitting a donation between Mandela’s campaign in Wisconsin and my work to defend our Senate majority. With less than 100 days until Election Day, we need to make sure he starts the general election as strong as possible.

This race is going to be expensive. Ron Johnson has raised over $16 million and has been flooding the state with ads. Plus McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund has pledged at least $15 million on top of that.

Despite all of that, it’s one of two flippable Senate seats for Democrats that Cook Political Report rates a “tossup.” Plus a number of polls have already shown Mandela with a slight lead. Ron Johnson is absolutely beatable.

This race is one of our best chances to flip a seat, but Republicans are going to use their limitless sums of dark money to pummel Mandela with nonstop attack ads. His only hope to compete with their corporate and billionaire backers is with lots and lots of people chipping in whatever they can afford.

So please, if you can, split a donation between Mandela’s campaign to defeat Ron Johnson in Wisconsin and my campaign today. Every dollar will be used to help us hold and expand our majority in November.
