Before she was a senator or even a school board member, Patty Murray was "just a mom in tennis shoes" -- at least according to a male Washington legislator.
He didn't appreciate the fact that she organized parents to tell him directly that state cuts to preschool programs would hurt kids and families. He didn't appreciate how relentless Patty was in fighting for her own family and every family in her community. He tried to send her home.
But Patty wouldn't be ignored, and she's never stopped fighting. This mom in tennis shoes wore out more than a few pairs as she worked her way from local office to United States Senate leadership. Today, she's a crucial partner to Bob, working to fight for child care and child tax credits that will help children and families thrive.
Unfortunately, Patty's facing the toughest re-election fight of her career. And if we lose this seat, Democrats won't just lose our Senate majority -- we'll lose one of our party’s most effective negotiators.
