December Democratic Debate questions are due today

Hi there —

The next time the Democratic candidates debate, we need them to talk about the courts. Candidates have spent hours discussing health care, the economy, climate change, workers’ rights, immigrants’ rights, and criminal justice reform — all deeply important issues. But the federal courts, which will have the final say on all of those issues, have only gotten one brief question. We need more answers from the entire field.

Politico is crowdsourcing questions for next week’s Democratic debate. Now’s your chance to ask candidates how they plan to fight for our courts.

Abortion rights are going to be at the Supreme Court again next year, the future of the Affordable Care Act is currently being decided by a federal appeals court in Texas, and the DREAMers are waiting for a Supreme Court decision that could fundamentally change their lives. Debating any of these issues without also discussing the courts just won’t cut it. Ask candidates about their plans to reverse the GOP’s court hijacking.

If you’re stuck, here are three questions we want answered:

  1. Would you consider adding seats to the Supreme Court to restore its legitimacy?
  2. Will you pledge to rebalance our courts by nominating judges who were advocates for real people, instead of corporate lawyers?
  3. Do you think Brett Kavanaugh should be impeached?

We need your voice to be heard in next week’s debate, friend.

In solidarity,
