MD Congressman Trone – Using his millions to hurt small business owners



** Washington County – Today, Colorado will begin to decide if enough signatures were collected to place Initiative 96 on the ballot. Maryland Congressman David Trone and his brother contributed over $2 million to get the signatures needed to place this initiative on the ballot.[1] (#_ftn1)

If passed, the legislation would allow Trone’s company, Total Wines and more, to open an unlimited number of stores in Colorado. Colorado Licensed Beverage Association’s leader, Chris Fine, indicated that this change, “Would put his members out of business,” and that it would be “catastrophic” for liquor retailers.[2 (#_ftn2) ]

This is not unlike how David Trone started his business empire by circumventing local laws and hurting small business owners. As a result, David Trone was arrested three times in Pennsylvania for his business practices and paid $1 million in fees for the same violations in New Jersey.[3] (#_ftn3)

Now, David Trone is buying signatures in Colorado to change their laws. He is using his money to circumvent the law and to put others out of business. Once again, David Trone is showing that he feels that he is above the law.

Delegate Parrott expressed his disappointment in David Trone’s disregard for the law and for the family businesses who will have to close. “David Trone has shown in Pennsylvania, in New Jersey, and now in Colorado that he does not care about small business owners or the law. He is using his wealth to bypass state laws, to cheat the system, and to put small business owners out of business.”

Parrott continued, “Western Maryland deserves a Congressman who will respect the law, who will encourage and invest in small businesses, and who will be honest in how they conduct business. All hard-working Americans deserve respect, fair treatment, and equal opportunities under the law.”

“David Trone has now shown in three states that he feels above the law. I don’t think that’s the type of attitude that we want representing us in Congress. People matter. David Trone has bought his way out of breaking the law, but he will not buy this election. Those of us in Western Maryland care about our families and our small businesses, and we care about respecting the law. Western Maryland is not for sale.”

Neil Parrott is the Republican Nominee for Maryland’s 6^th Congressional District, which is the 2^nd most competitive congressional district in the country right now, according to FiveThirtyEight.
