GOP Responds to Mar-a-Lago Raid
|
Daily Wire: If the FBI doesn’t have ‘bedrock-solid’ reasons for raiding former President Trump’s Florida home Monday, there should be ‘hell to pay,’ The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro declared. “This sort of move requires serious levels of trust by the American public in its institutions,” Shapiro continued. “That trust no longer exists. If those institutions fail yet again, and target the leader of Joe Biden’s political opposition in doing so, this looks like banana republic stuff” ( Daily Wire). Leader Kevin McCarthy: Attorney General Garland: preserve your documents and clear your calendar ( Twitter). Rep. Carlos Gimenez: The Mar-A-Lago raid on Trump by the FBI is yet another glimpse into what happens when unelected, unchecked Washington bureaucrats weaponize their agencies. I won’t participate in handing Biden another army of 87k IRS paper pushers to target and harass American business owners ( Twitter). Nikki Haley: Almost 24 hours after a former president’s home is raided, and the FBI, Justice Department, and White House have zero explanation. Does that mean this sort of thing is now business as usual? That can never be allowed to happen. America is waiting for answers ( Twitter). Mike Pompeo: Executing a warrant against ex-POTUS is dangerous. The apparent political weaponization of DOJ/FBI is shameful. AG must explain why 250 yrs of practice was upended w/ this raid. I served on Benghazi Com where we proved Hilliary possessed classified info. We didn’t raid her home ( Twitter).

Hillary Clinton, Hunter Biden Treated with Kid Gloves While President Trump’s Home Gets Raided
|
Daily Wire: Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who served as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency before serving as secretary of state, slammed the FBI raid on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home Monday, highlighting the disparity between that raid and the treatment of former presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The FBI’s raid was revealed by Trump in a statement on Monday and reports indicated that the raid revolved around supposed classified documents ( Daily Wire). Mike Pompeo: You think those 87,000 new IRS agents are just for show? Look at what the DOJ did last night to President Trump, while it slow-rolls and looks the other way on Hunter Biden. If they will go after a former President, they will go after you ( Twitter). Governor Ron DeSantis: The raid of MAL is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves. Now the Regime is getting another 87k IRS agents to wield against its adversaries? Banana Republic ( Twitter).

Democrats Admit: “Inflation Reduction Act” Really Isn’t About Inflation at All
|
“Inflation Reduction Act” has an Orwellian ring to it. National Review: The Congressional Budget Office, the Penn Wharton Budget Model, and even bill supporter Bernie Sanders all agree: The bill won’t have a noticeable impact on inflation at all. Everything in it was proposed by Democrats before inflation became a pressing concern, and the bill serves progressive interests (which explains Sanders’s support). The biggest chunk of spending is on corporate welfare for green-energy companies. That’s what corporate tax credits mean in the context of climate policy, and the Democrats’ bill has hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of them. Progressives are breathlessly claiming that the bill will reduce emissions by 40 percent by 2030. What they aren’t saying as loudly is that the 40 percent is measured starting in 2005, so much of the reduction (halfway to 40 percent as of 2020) has occurred already… The bill raises corporate taxes through a book minimum tax. Corporations pass much of their tax burden on to consumers, who are already facing higher prices. It also contains a hidden gas-tax increase by reinstating the Superfund tax that lapsed in the 1990s ( National Review). Stephen Moore: I’ve never seen anything like this in my 35 years. This will bankrupt our country ( Daybreak Daily).

Hillary Clinton Mocks Trump in Fundraising Pitch After Trump’s Home Raided by FBI
|
Move is done in poor taste. Breitbart: Failed 2020 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton brazenly touted her ‘But Her Emails’ merchandise on social media after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Monday night. Clinton, who served as Secretary of State under former President Barack Obama, has continued to lean into her infamous email scandal, in which she scrubbed 33,000 emails and mishandled classified information she likely used to hide efforts to use her office to raise money for her family’s foundation. Unlike with Trump and despite evidence of alleged misconduct, the FBI excused Clinton ( Breitbart). Hillary Clinton: Every “But her emails” hat or shirt sold helps @onwardtogether partners defend democracy, build a progressive bench, and fight for our values. Just saying ( Twitter)! Fox News: Trump’s camp and Republicans accused the FBI of acting on behalf of Democrats to crush their political enemies after recent polling showed Trump as a strong contender to run for a second term as commander in chief again in 2024. Marc Elias, a top lawyer for Clinton’s presidential campaign, suggested that the FBI raid could bar Trump from seeking public office ever again ( Fox News).

Biden Signs Bill to Increase Chip Production in the United States in Effort to Beat China
|
Associated Press: President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed a $280 billion bipartisan bill to boost domestic high-tech manufacturing, part of his administration’s push to boost U.S. competitiveness over China. “The future of the chip industry is going to be made in America,” Biden said in a sweltering Rose Garden ceremony Tuesday, referring to the diminutive devices that power everything from smartphones to computers to automobiles. The legislation sets aside $52 billion specifically to bolster the U.S. computer chip sector ( Associated Press). CNBC: The U.S. produces only about 10% of the world’s supply of semiconductors, whereas East Asia accounts for 75% of global production — including most of the top-tier chips, according to the White House. Semiconductors are critical pieces of an array of products including consumer electronics, automobiles, health-care equipment and weapons systems. The Covid-19 pandemic sparked a chip shortage and strained supply chains, highlighting America’s dependence on foreign-made chips and revealing a potential national security threat, officials say ( CNBC).

Biden Does Away With Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” Policy
|
CBS: U.S. border officials on Monday suspended Trump-era rules that required certain migrants to wait for their asylum hearings in Mexico. The suspension followed a federal court order that put an end to a lengthy legal back-and-forth over President Biden’s efforts to end the policy. In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it would process migrants already enrolled in the program and allow them to continue their asylum cases inside the U.S. The announcement, which came more than a year after the Biden administration first moved to terminate the Remain-in-Mexico rules, was made possible by a court order earlier on Monday ( CBS). New York Post: Former President Donald Trump first implemented MPP in early 2019 as the number of migrant encounters surged over 100,000 each month ( New York Post).

Russia Implements Temporary Pause of START Treaty
|
Wall Street Journal: The crisis over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine spilled into the realm of arms control on Monday when Moscow said it won’t support the resumption of inspections of its nuclear arsenal under the New START nuclear arms treaty because of travel restrictions imposed by the U.S. The accord, which cuts long-range nuclear arms, is the last major agreement regulating the nuclear competition between Washington and Moscow. Both sides have been observing its limits. Weapons inspections were paused in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The U.S. wanted to have a team of inspectors resume on-site monitoring, U.S. officials said. But Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday that American inspections couldn’t resume at this time because U.S.-driven international restrictions precluded Russian aircraft from flying Russian inspectors to American territory ( Wall Street Journal). National Review: Russia claimed that the U.S. sanctions due to the war on Ukraine, including banning Russian aircraft, were affecting Russia’s ability to inspect American nuclear arsenals. The halt would be “temporary,” Moscow claimed, saying it would resume the treaty “after the existing problematic issues” are “resolved.” New Start was extended in 2021 and is expected to last till 2026. The treaty limits the number of nuclear warheads for each country to 1,500 and allows 18 on-site annual inspections by each country ( National Review).

Ron Johnson in November in a race that could determine which party will control the upper chamber next year ( USA Today). Check here for full election results ( New York Times).

Biden’s Legislation Has Put America in Record-High Inflation and In Recession
|
Breitbart: Although congressional Democrats have only a four-member majority in the House and a one-member majority in the Senate, Biden has been able to pass a substantial legislative agenda. It is also notable that Biden has spent so much during the first half of his term in office. This includes: The $1.9 trillion American Recovery Act, Biden’s coronavirus relief bill. The $550 billion so-called Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The $280 billion Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Act. $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act. As Politico noted, these expenditures amount to roughly $3.5 trillion and address many leftist priorities such as “the pandemic and its economic fallout, highways, bridges, broadband, rail, manufacturing, science, prescription drug prices, health insurance, climate change, deficit reduction and tax equity.” This spending has followed as Americans continue to reel from record-high inflation ( Breitbart). Washington Examiner: Unprecedented money printing and federal spending make it harder for businesses to rebuild , leading to empty store shelves and out-of-control prices. Years of these left-wing policies have progressively gummed up the engines of our economy, and we’re all now paying the price. Instead of facing reality and stopping the damage, Biden and congressional Democrats have announced yet another legislative package filled with even more pork and misguided policies. The Biden administration pretends it’s not happening and has opted for tone-deaf nitpicking over the definition of a recession ( Washington Examiner).

We Have No Reason to Believe the IRS Won’t be Used Against Americans
|
Hugh Hewitt: What will the IRS do with $80 billion in new funds? Or find the 87,000 new workers (who would be phased in over a decade) to do it? Go after richer, high-value targets, at least in theory. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the IRS booster funds will reduce the deficit by about $200 billion. But if the agency’s metric of success remains the same — audits yielding increased payments from taxpayers — such estimates are little more than guesswork. What matters most is that with this provision of the weekend spending spree, Democrats have handed Republicans a gift of an issue. And they did it to pay for their new spending on all their pet projects ( Washington Post). GOP: Democrats weaponizing the IRS is not speculation … they already did it under Barack Obama. In 2017, the IRS admitted that during Obama’s term they targeted conservative groups with “heightened scrutiny and inordinate delays.” There was almost no accountability: Lois Lerner, the head of the tax-exempt status department, received a $129,000 bonus and retired with a full pension. The IRS “destroyed evidence subject to subpoena.” Obama called the targeting a “phony scandal.” Now Democrats want to add 87,000 MORE IRS enforcers with their Bidenflation Scam bill – which would make the IRS larger than the Border Patrol, FBI, State Department, and Pentagon combined. We already know 75% of IRS audits targeted Americans making under $200,000 in 2021 ( GOP). Tommy Pigott: Democrats weaponizing the IRS is not speculation … they already did it under Obama. There was almost no accountability. Now Dems want to add 87K MORE IRS enforcers with their scam bill. There is no reason to assume this power will not be abused again ( Twitter).

Hugh Hewitt explains why the enormous spending bill passed in the Senate over the weekend is misnamed and misguided

Hugh Hewitt: And they did it. Joe Biden and the Senate Democrats spent another $700 billion over the weekend. Now the House will have to confirm that on Friday and they will. They’ll pass it.
And so, Joe Biden’s record after two years is pretty straightforward. What they’re running on —...

Dennis Prager deplores government control over Americans’ lives over a virus — especially one that is less dangerous than a hippopotamus
