John, It happened at last: The FBI raided Mar-a-Lago.

We don't know yet exactly what they were looking for but apparently they opened Donald Trump's safe, and rumors are he was keeping some classified documents illegally removed from Washington there. I'm sure we'll know more soon about which of Trump's many likely crimes led to the raid.

Predictably, the Republican Party responded with their usual unhinged performative outrage, yet even worse as Donald Trump's their cult leader. Their capo di tutti capi, in mob-speak. The seditionists came out screeching for shutting down the FBI, and then the secession talk started. Among this collection of clods, crazy Kari Lake, the GOP nominee to be Governor of the key swing state of Arizona, even stuck out among the bunch:

Kari Lake is an insurrectionist who believes 10 year old girls who are raped are baby containers, wards of the state. Yet, criminals like Trump should be able to commit their crimes unmolested by the federal government, so long as they have the right politics. So now she's threatening the federal government, and all of us.

It is this kind of demonization of federal officials by right wing extremists that led to the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, murdering 168 Americans and injuring 680 more, including many little children who were at the daycare in the building. You know, because these psychopaths are so "pro-life."

 

If ever there were a time to send a message that we will not tolerate these threats it is now. Katie Hobbs, the Arizona Secretary of State, is the Democratic nominee for Governor. First, she won statewide to be Secretary of State, overcoming the top of the ticket, as Republicans won the governorship. She used her office to fight back against every threat from the likes of Lake, then-President Trump and his henchmen, to ensure that we got an accurate vote count in one of the closest state elections in the country in 2020, one of a few that delivered the presidency to Joe Biden and sent Trump down to Mar-a-Lago.

Hobbs must win this race. Because she's a dedicated, brilliant, fearless public servant. Because Arizona is a key swing state. Because we must reject threats of violence from public officials like Lake. And because we don't want to even imagine a country where Lake is Governor of Arizona (and then on a short list ot be a vice presidential nominee).
