This summer was like a homecoming for the Aspen Institute. Our marquee
convenings were back in person, and the energy was palpable. Audiences were
reinvigorated by big ideas at the [1]Aspen Ideas Festival; domestic and
global perspectives at the [2]Aspen Security Forum; and inspirational
leadership at the [3]Resnick Aspen Action Forum.

Speakers and attendees at these events discussed urgent topics from the
state of [4]Russia's invasion of Ukraine to [5]US-China relations at the
Security Forum to [6]gender justice and our [7]tied global future at the
Action Forum. At the [8]inaugural Aspen ESG Summit, business leaders,
investors, and corporate governance experts debated the role of companies
as societal influencers. Read more below about the return of summer
discourse to the Aspen campus.

[15]In Alaska, a Better Way to Argue about Climate Change

“Helping people argue” may sound unusual, but that’s the philosophy behind
the [16]Better Arguments Project, a national civic initiative that helps
bridge divides by training people to have more civil disagreements. Oliviah
Franke, a project ambassador based in Alaska, [17]facilitates discussions
around climate change in her home state. She brings Indigenous and other
communities of color into discussions with energy industry leaders, helping
them overcome their differences and connect as fellow Alaskans.

[20]How to Best Support Refugee Families

Since the American military withdrawal from Afghanistan a year ago, tens of
thousands of Afghans have been evacuated to the US. Like others before
them, these refugees face challenges adjusting to a new culture, climate,
language, and way of life. The [21]Community Strategies Group, in
partnership with [22]Ascend Network Partners, identified [23]four essential
practices that communities and organizations can employ to help refugee
families reach their full potential.
