As students and teachers head back to school this week and next, it’s clear we’ve never seen a school year quite like this one.

Students and educators are not only facing discriminatory GOP legislation like the “Don’t Say Gay” bill — now Florida law — but they’re also struggling with a dire teacher shortage, low teacher wages, and the GOP’s open disrespect for both students and educators. 

Quality public education is critical to our state’s well-being, but it’s clear that Florida’s public education system is on the wrong track. And we need to do something about it. 

Florida Senate Democrats are fighting for our students and teachers. They’re fighting to raise teacher wages, end the teacher shortage, and give our students the opportunity to succeed.
