Ryan Khojasteh, one of the dedicated prosecutors that Chesa Boudin hired,
spoke [ [link removed] ]to the San Francisco Chronicle about current DA Brooke Jenkins’
mass firing.

When Jenkins was appointed, she reassured current prosecutors in the DA’s
office, like Ryan, that her goal was to “unite the office” — and then she
fired 15 people right off the bat.
These were passionate, justice-minded prosecutors who were there to hold
police accountable, free innocent people, treat kids like kids, and
address the root causes of mental health crises and substance use
disorder.
Ryan told the Chronicle, “The district attorney is tasked with leading a
city department with an exceptionally challenging mandate at an
exceptionally challenging time. If these first weeks on the job are any
indication of how [Jenkins] intends to use these next few months, I fear
the challenges the office has faced will only get worse.”
It’s clear that Jenkins is FAR from capable. This is who replaced Chesa
Boudin when he was recalled by a right-wing campaign full of lies, and now
she will set back meaningful reforms in San Francisco for generations.
And more cities could be next.
Conservative mega-donors are already targeting other leaders like Larry
Krasner and George Gascón — and if we can’t protect them, we’ll see even
more TERRIBLE DAs like Jenkins in power.

protect our current progressive DAs, but their offices, their employees
and all of the meaningful work that has been done in cities like
Philadelphia and Los Angeles?

Ryan tried to make the best of a bad situation when Chesa was recalled,
hoping for resources that the Mayor and Jenkins could bring to help
improve the office. But instead she made fake, unrealistic promises to fix
issues that came long before Chesa, like understaffing.
“The reality is that Jenkins has just over three months to make good on a
slew of promises that will require an office that is staffed and not
drowning in caseloads. Firing 15 staffers, who were effective members of
the team, just a few months before voters decide in November who will
finish out the year remaining in Boudin’s term, makes it unlikely she’ll
be able to do so.”
Jenkins simply wanted to FIRE any prosecutors who shared Chesa’s goals of
taking public safety seriously and supported initiatives such as stopping
the prosecution of children as adults. And now it’s going to be the ENTIRE
city that suffers.
This is why we fought so hard to support Chesa against the recall. And we
knew that this would happen as soon as the Mayor appointed the leader of
the recall campaign as the new DA. We can’t allow our work for real
justice to be rolled back in any other cities.
[ [link removed] ]PLEASE make a donation to help protect our current progressive DAs,
their offices, their employees, and all of the meaningful reform that will
change our justice system for the better. We can’t afford to see more
incompetent leaders like Jenkins make their way into DA offices.
Thankful for your support,
Real Justice
