It?s hard to believe it?s already that time of year ? fall sports have started practice, and school supplies are available in stores. That?s why we?re working hard to make sure you can enjoy these last few weeks of a Pure Michigan summer. We?re announcing new road projects in five counties to make your drives to the lake smoother and safer. We?re investing in Michigan jobs and were recently recognized as the number one state for energy sector job growth. And we?re getting ready for back-to-school by celebrating the 100,000th Michigan Reconnect student ? a huge milestone in helping Michiganders get higher education or skills training tuition-free. So, before we start ordering our pumpkin spice lattes, let?s hit the trails, lay on the beach, and take advantage of our state?s beauty.?
Today, I am thrilled to announce the CHIPS and Science Act was signed into law. This historic, bipartisan legislation will empower Michigan workers, surge domestic manufacturing, and lower costs for customers. After I led a group of 21 bipartisan governors calling on the U.S. Congress to come together and pass funding for this legislation, I am grateful to our congressional delegation for their leadership to get this done.?
 The CHIPS and Science Act brings supply chains home, creates and protects tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, and lowers costs on everything from cars and electronics to household appliances. I signed an preparing Michigan to harness every possible resource from the law, and we will maximize its potential right here in Michigan. The CHIPS and Science Act will build on our economic momentum, and I will work with anyone to show the world that Michigan is the place to build the future. Let?s keep moving forward.?
Hi Michigan! Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist here with some exciting news! On August 5th, 2022, I announced that Michigan will enable four new mobility services to help address challenges across the state related to sustainable transit, roadway safety, parking, and staffing shortages in the service industry.?In partnership with key universities, whose students and programs are already working to help shape the future of mobility, four companies ? Bluecity, GEKOT Inc., Mouvit, and Nimbus ? will receive $285,000 in total funding through the?Michigan Mobility Funding Platform?to test and deploy mobility projects across the state, including in Ann Arbor, Rochester, Dearborn, Novi and Farmington Hills.?
This project?represents our state?s continued investment in innovative mobility solutions that can change the world. It demonstrates the value of partnerships between the state, the companies working to develop future mobility, and the universities training the talent that will keep our mobility ecosystems moving forward.
Together, we are showing the world that Michigan knows how to get it done.

On August 8th, 2022, I announced five road projects slated to begin this week in Berrien, Clare, Ingham, Kent, and Van Buren counties. Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to save drivers time and money. These investments across Berrien, Clare, Ingham, Kent, and Van Buren counties will support 908 jobs, and help Michiganders get to work, run errands, and explore our beautiful state safely. ?
Since I took office through the end of 2022, we will have invested 70% more in our roads than the previous four years to fix over 16,000 lane miles of road and 1,200 bridges, supporting nearly 89,000 jobs. These?Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects include I-94 bridge demolition over Pipestone Road in Berrien County Bridge, work on southbound M-37 in Kent County, maintenance on US-127 ramps at Kipp Road in Ingham County, and I-196 ramp repaving in Van Buren County. Both my Rebuilding Michigan Plan and the bipartisan Building Michigan Together Plan are helping us build safe, reliable infrastructure that makes a difference for families and small business across the state. I?m proud of what we have accomplished, so let?s roll up our sleeves and keep getting things done.?
This is a huge step on our way to my Sixty by 30 goal, which aims to increase the number of Michigan adults with a postsecondary degree or credential to 60% by the year 2030. Since I first announced this goal, we?ve grown the percentage of working-age adults with a college degree or certificate from 45% to 49%.?
Michigan Reconnect is putting hardworking Michiganders on a tuition-free path to a brighter future. This bipartisan program is a game-changer not only for the people enrolled in the program, but also for their families, small businesses, and our state as a whole. I am so proud of the 100,000 and counting Reconnect applicants. They have taken an important step to chase their dreams, learn new skills, and land a good-paying job to support themselves and their families. Because of their grit and determination, we can keep growing Michigan?s economy, supporting and attracting hardworking people, and powering small businesses in every region of our great state.?
I love hearing from our youngest Michiganders. A few weeks ago, Sam wrote me a letter asking what it?s like to be Governor and what my favorite lake is ? while Sam?s favorite is Lake Michigan, I have to say I?m partial to Lake Superior.?
