The American Academy of Nursing will this fall welcome its newest fellows, who together represent 35 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 17 countries. The record number—250—reflects a record number of applications. Their contributions are especially needed now, says AAN’s president, as investments and innovation in health equity are paramount. Congratulations to all.
Center Focuses on Ways School Nurses Support Those Most Vulnerable
In two blog posts on the Campaign website, the Center for School Health Innovation & Quality spotlights creative ways in which school nurses take on complex problems. It’s all in the data, writes Erin D. Maughan, PhD, RN, FAAN, who heads the new organization that’s reinventing school health to better serve all students. Maughan reports on how school nurses address inequities that show up in ways large and small, including student commutes, fees to cover sports, meals, and sanitary needs, and more, and the mental health needs of all.

As its FAQ notes, changes were “made with the recognition that the persistence and magnitude of health inequities in the United States calls for an approach that fully leverages the strengths of nursing research.”
