John,

Last week, Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court ruled against the Republican suit to throw out Act 77, the law allowing mail-in voting here in the Commonwealth. That’s great news — but it’s not the end of the story.

Now they plan to appeal this case all the way to the far-right U.S. Supreme Court, while a separate lawsuit filed last month seeks to throw out mail-in voting over a technicality.

John, the real reason for these Republican lawsuits could not be more clear. Act 77 passed with bipartisan support, but now many of the same people who helped pass it want it gone. The difference? Record voter turnout in the 2020 general election that included Black, brown and young voters. Will you chip in $10 today to help us continue to empower communities of color, immigrant communities, and the youth in Pennsylvania with or without mail-in voting?

Act 77 was the greatest expansion to Pennsylvanians’ voting access in decades. No excuse mail-in ballots allow people who work multiple or shift jobs with little day-to-day flexibility to participate in democracy.

Mail-in ballots are critical to expanding the electorate — particularly in communities of color and for young voters who are disproportionately unable to take off work one specific Tuesday in the months of May and November.

John, last week’s decision was a huge victory for our voting rights — but it is a temporary one. Vote-by-mail should be a permanent option for all eligible voters. This work requires putting one foot in front of the other. Day-by-day and step-by-step, we are moving Pennsylvania forward. With just 90 days to go until the election, keeping that progress up is crucial. Will you invest $10 right now in moving Pennsylvania forward by registering communities of color, immigrant communities and the youth to vote and make their voices heard in every election — twice a year?

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in under-represented communities of color and immigrant communities. We will register them to vote, provide education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize people to vote in every election.
