Hello – I have some very exciting news to share with you!
Today, President Biden signed the CHIPS and Science Act, which includes a pilot version of the RECOMPETE Act that I introduced last year.
The RECOMPETE Act is about ensuring people have economic opportunity – regardless of what zip code they live in. It will provide flexible, long-term grant assistance to help distressed communities create jobs and lay the foundation for long-term economic growth and opportunity.
Currently, 1/6 of the U.S. population lives in economically distressed communities, where workers are experiencing higher unemployment rates than the national average. Many of these communities are being left behind, lacking adequate economic opportunities.
When I first introduced the RECOMPETE Act, I was determined to provide underserved communities with the resources and help they need to create jobs. No community should have to worry that their main export will be young people.
Listen, this is a huge win for American families and communities – not just in Washington – but for folks all across the country.
I remain committed to creating an economy that works for working people and ensuring all Americans have access to good-paying jobs. That’s why, with you by my side, I've fought hard to get the RECOMPETE Act made into law. I'm proud to continue ensuring that folks all across our nation get the fair shot they're entitled to.
