This term has been a busy one for Mary Gay, so over the coming days, we’re going to catch you up on her work! Today we’re talking about the grant funds Mary Gay secured just for PA-05.
Grant funding for social services and needs is made available in local districts via federal funding. That means Mary Gay works hard in Washington to secure the federal funds that benefit our district and everyone in it. Her work is paying off — PA-05 received an astounding $314,260,460 in grants this term!
We’re going to talk about 3 of the grant recipients today:
➡ $7,984,616 to Delaware County Intermediate Unit for Head Start Programs — these programs are integral to supporting children before the kindergarten years and giving families tools to support their children
➡ $18,309,993 to support PHL Airport expansion. This grant is in addition to the over $54 million that the airport will receive from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that Mary Gay voted for. With over 19 million visitors a year, PHL is becoming competitive with other airports in the region and needs the resources to expand capacity and serve more travelers
➡ $400,000 to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Legal Aid (SPLA) — A career attorney, Mary Gay knows folks in our region need legal services that are not always affordable. Funding for the SPLA supports its mission to represent all, regardless of financial status
And just last week, Mary Gay secured $22.8 million from the American Rescue Plan’s Good Jobs Challenge for local non-profit, Philadelphia Works! These funds will be used to focus on workforce training and create good-paying, union jobs in underserved areas in southeastern PA.
I have to say, I am so proud to work for Mary Gay! Are you proud too? Instantly add your name to let us know you’re on Team Scanlon.
We’ll be back tomorrow to talk about the bills Mary Gay sponsored that have been signed into law by the President.
More soon!
