Today, the U.S. House and Senate announced the introduction of the Afghan Adjustment Act – a bill which would give tens of thousands of Afghan allies already in the United States a clear pathway to permanent residence.  

After nearly one year of living in limbo after evacuating from Afghanistan, Afghan evacuees and our allies deserve a clear pathway to stability. Many Afghan evacuees have been able to temporarily reside in the U.S. via humanitarian parole and/or Temporary Protected Status, yet most lack a viable path to permanent legal status and face uncertain futures in the U.S. 

The introduction of the Afghan Adjustment Act demonstrates that significant progress is being made to provide Afghan allies, evacuees, and their families the permanency and stability they deserve – and now, we must keep up the pressure and continue our advocacy to urge Congress to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act and resolve the long-term status of Afghan evacuees.
