Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
American Energy Independence
While gas prices are lower than their recent peak of over $5 per gallon, they are still historically high. The drop in price is mostly attributed to a drop in demand as folks simply cannot afford the record high prices and are driving less. The Biden administration’s energy policies are hurting American families and jeopardizing national security. In early May, President Biden began releasing millions of barrels of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) and sent nearly one million barrels of oil from the SPR to China. This wrongheaded decision has depleted our reserve to its lowest point since 1985. Last month, Biden traveled to Saudi Arabia to ask the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to pump more oil. The president should not release our SPR or beg hostile foreign regimes when we have an abundant supply of energy here at home. Our best solution to address this energy crisis is increasing domestic energy production to meet supply here and abroad. Click here to read more about my views on energy independence.
In the News
- Franklin and colleagues probe Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for obstructing Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigations: As the border disaster continues, concerns have been raised about efforts within DHS to obstruct OIG investigations into border security operations. Transparency is critical to both public understanding of how border security is conducted, as well as for congressional oversight. That's why I joined my House Oversight GOP colleagues to launch a probe into reports of obstruction by the Office of Inspector General (OIG). Click here to read the full letter.
