On International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we uplift Indigenous peoples’ self-determination as the solution to the crises facing the Amazon. Each of us has a role to play in protecting the rainforest and the rights and lives of Earth Defenders.

When you make a monthly donation to Amazon Watch, you ensure that Indigenous peoples have a global community alongside them at every moment. You enable solidarity funding for security, movement-building, health, ecosystem protection, and more, and you amplify Indigenous voices in international decision-making spaces.

YES, I’D LIKE TO MAKE A MATCHED MONTHLY GIFT IN SUPPORT OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES!

Monthly giving is a budget-friendly way to support Indigenous peoples and rainforest protection throughout the year. In honor of this special day, an anonymous donor has agreed to match every monthly donation in August up to $25,000! So a $50 monthly donation will become $100!

Among many vital programs, your generous support of Amazon Watch provides direct accompaniment of Indigenous leaders calling attention to rainforest destruction on the international stage.

In July, Amazon Watch accompanied Indigenous leaders from the Wampis and Achuar Nations to Germany to call out financiers of oil extraction and destruction in the Amazon. Amazon Watch and allies put Achuar and Wampis leaders in touch with European civil society organizations, set up a meeting with Deutsche Bank, and supported the delegation in building out partnerships with activists, artists, and organizations to resist oil production in their territories.

Then, Amazon Watch accompanied Eliesio Marubo, a lawyer for the Indigenous organization UNIVAJA, to Washington, D.C. to advocate for justice after the brutal assassinations of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips. Eliesio met with U.S. Congressional offices to generate pressure on the Brazilian government to protect the communities of the Javari Valley from continued violence against Earth Defenders.

Your support ensures that Indigenous peoples are backed by an international community committed to their rights, leadership, and safety. Thank you for your solidarity with Indigenous peoples, today and every day!

For the Amazon and her defenders,

Leila Salazar-López
Executive Director
