** U.S. Senate Acts on Climate: Good for Midwest Environment and Economy
------------------------------------------------------------
On Sunday, the Senate passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) ([link removed]) , the single largest investment in tackling climate change in American history, with investments in clean energy, EVs, sustainable agriculture practices, and more. It provides $2 billion for the popular Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which will create jobs and business opportunities while helping rural areas fight climate change.
“This legislation invests in the actions we need, from clean energy and energy efficiency for homes and buildings to electric vehicles and much-needed support to implement environmental reviews across the government,” said Environmental Law & Policy Center Federal Legislative Director Ann Mesnikoff.
We urge a quick passage in the House and a quick signature from President Biden on this necessary climate action package.

** The Power of Electric School Buses: Connecting Grid Operators with Schools ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
This month, ELPC staff brought an electric school bus to the National Association of Utility Regulators Conference, to allow industry leaders to experience this clean transportation technology in person. Electric school buses offer more than healthy rides to school, they are also mobile battery units that can provide electricity to the local distribution grid. ELPC is building partnerships between school districts and utilities as a win-win for grid reliability and the environment.

** Continuing Advocacy around Great Lakes Climate Impacts ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Since our release of the Rising Waters report ([link removed]) last month, we have been working towards solutions with communities all around Lake Michigan. Staff met with leaders in Waukegan, Illinois, Northwest Indiana, and Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to discuss solutions to shoreline concerns. We hosted a briefing with staff from the Great Lakes Congressional Caucus and kept a steady drumbeat in the local press.

** ELPC Joins 200+ Organizations Opposing Senate Attack on NEPA ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is a bedrock environmental law that gives people a voice in major infrastructure projects that affect their air, water, and communities. The Biden administration has been working hard to undo the damage the prior administration did to NEPA reviews, but this month the U.S. Senate voted on a Republican-led resolution to undermine those efforts. We will continue to oppose any attempts to roll back environmental laws.
