What the Inflation Reduction Act means for us

My mom sobbed on the stranger's shoulders and then told her she had no idea where to begin. That's when Catherine pulled out a pen and notepad and told her not to worry. She assured us that she was there to help and she wasn't going to leave until our family got it.

 

When our family had nothing but each other after the Hurricane, our home destroyed by flooding, Catherine showed up and took care of us. She recruited volunteers to help with cleanup, she found us housing, she got us connected to the local food bank. At our family’s lowest point, Catherine was there to lift us up.

 

Yesterday we were joined in Mamaroneck by Catherine Parker, local electeds and fellow flood survivors from across the district, who have personally experienced major flooding events caused by climate change,  calling on the House to see the Inflation Reduction Act through to the President’s signature.

 

The work Catherine has done at the County level has been and will continue to be important but we must take that same dedication to Congress.

 

Lou Young, Deputy Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck: This issue is so important because our community is in the floodplain. We got 8 ½” of rain after Ida and the rivers overflowed, destroying our roads, bridges, homes, and businesses. Catherine Parker has been a critical leader in ensuring that communities like ours receive the necessary funding to improve our infrastructure.

One thing is clear, we cannot have our current Congressman or the Squad playing any more games. This is a once in a generation opportunity to make real investments in our energy security and combat climate change.
