This is just the beginning.
John,
I am feeling hopeful. Here's why:
- Last Tuesday, Kansas overwhelmingly voted to keep abortion legal in their state. It was a resounding victory for our pro-choice movement and a clear sign that folks are ready to vote for reproductive freedom in record numbers this November.
- Beto recently stopped in Woodville, where the last candidate to campaign for governor there was my mom, Ann Richards. In this community with a population of 2,849 people, Beto ended up needing to hold a second Drive for Texas town hall outside because everyone couldn’t fit in the library.
These two examples have filled my heart with hope this past week, John. People of every political background — Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and first-time voters — are showing up and getting involved in this election because they understand how high the stakes are.
This is just the beginning. People are ready to vote to protect our reproductive rights and more. As my mom would say, I hear America singing.
But we cannot be naive about the massive political power we are up against. Greg Abbott and GOP strategists are going to see the results in Kansas as a warning sign, and a reason to launch even more attacks. He has already committed to spending over $100 million against Beto before Election Day, but we need to be prepared to see that number rise.
As a proud member of this campaign, I'm asking you to donate anything you can today to help us defeat Greg Abbott and elect Beto O'Rourke. Beto's campaign is powered by people, so this couldn't be more important.

It's time for Texas to have a governor who listens to, works with, and fights for the people of the state. And I believe with my whole heart that if we come together and put everything we have, including some dollars, into this fight — we will win.
We are the ones to meet this moment.
In solidarity,
Cecile
