Dear Friend,
Two weeks from today, on Tuesday, August 23, I hope you will join me and other Maryland leaders at the 20th Annual Women's Equality Day Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This year's luncheon will recognize the role Maryland women play in progressing our state forward, and serve as a call to action to mobilize women's votes across Maryland. With so much at stake for our country - from reproductive rights, to addressing gun violence, to protecting our democracy - I am glad to be hosting this luncheon once more with the theme: Get Out Her Vote!
Last week, I announced that my friend and colleague Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) will be our keynote speaker at this year's event. She has been a fierce advocate in Congress for mothers and women. In 2012, Lucy lost her teenage son to an act of gun violence. This tragic event sparked her advocacy against gun violence and a successful run for Congress. In the House, Lucy has focused on passing laws to help our children and families including numerous pieces of legislation that have passed the House, from universal background checks for all gun sales to "Red Flag Laws" to limit access to firearms for those who are potentially dangerous. I look forward to welcoming her as the keynote speaker at the 20th Annual Women's Equality Day Luncheon.
I hope you'll join me for this wonderful event. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call my campaign office at (301) 464-5710. I also encourage you to connect with me on Twitter by following @StenyHoyer and on Facebook by liking my Facebook page: [link removed].
