We fund voter protection Here's the latest, John ... it's not good: Analysis by NPR found that Georgia’s package of election laws enacted last year could have a disparate impact on voters of color. “The changes include restricting access to drop boxes in counties that used them the most, which also have the highest number of voters of color and Democrats.” Thanks to these changes, 1/4 of Georgia voters saw their travel time to a ballot drop box increase from the 2020 election to the May 2022 primary election. And, “more than 90% of voters who saw an increase in their travel time to a drop box live in cities or suburbs, which are home to most of the state's minority voters and vote heavily Democratic.” This isn’t accidental, John — it’s targeted. Republicans have launched a specific attack on voters of color because they know the only way they can win is by suppressing votes. We won’t let this happen on our watch. Helping voters overcome systemic voter suppression requires intentional investment and sustained work. That’s why we’re funding permanent, year-round voter protection staff in battleground states – including in Georgia.
