Kicking off August in NJ-11

A Message from Congresswoman Sherrill

Dear Friends,

This summer has been jam-packed so far! We passed bills that are lowering costs for NJ families, providing healthcare to veterans suffering from burn pit exposure, preventing gun violence, and funding Community Projects here in NJ-11. While I’m looking forward to returning to Washington to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which will bring down prescription drug prices for NJ-11 families and address the climate crisis, I am gearing up for a great August where I will be spending time in New Jersey.

In the first week of August, I attended the ground breaking on the new Portal North Bridge and spoke to residents in towns throughout NJ-11 for National Night Out. I also met with women of NJ-11’s business community alongside the Morris County Chamber of Commerce.

Tomorrow, Mobile Casework Hours are coming to Fairfield! On August 10 from 12:00-2:00 PM, my team will be at the Municipal Council Chambers located at 230 Fairfield Road and ready to help you with any issue you may have with a federal agency.

Breaking Ground on Our Nation’s Most Important Infrastructure Project

Federal investment in the 111-year old Portal Bridge is the culmination of years of advocacy and hard work, as well as a new beginning for NJ-11 commuters. Last week, I broke ground with Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Governor Phil Murphy, the NJ congressional delegation, and NJ Transit to get this project underway.

This project, made possible by federal transportation funding that I’ve championed over the past three years, is going to make a tangible difference to the quality of life and economic opportunities of New Jersey families, and will have a significant positive environmental impact in North Jersey.

National Night Out

National Night Out is all about building trust and communication between our law enforcement officials and our communities to help to make us all safer. It was great to be back in person for this annual night in NJ-11.

Thank you to Chatham Township, Boonton, Boonton Township, Mountain Lakes, and Rockaway Borough police forces and communities for welcoming me and thank you to all NJ-11 law enforcement for everything you do!

Morris Chamber Women in Business Executive Roundtable

It was a pleasure to join the Morris County Chamber of Commerce for a Woman in Business Executive Roundtable. I am always inspired by the women in NJ-11 who continue to break glass ceilings. When women support each other, incredible things happen.

Honoring Raoul Wallenberg and the Importance of Holocaust Education

Raoul Wallenburg was a true hero who worked selflessly to rescue thousands of Jews during the Holocaust. Each year, Adath Shalom Synagogue and Parsippany honor him with an interfaith service at Dr. Edward Adams’s “Courage and Compassion” sculpture by Smith Field.

Holocaust education is vital to ensuring it never happens again and to thwarting the disturbing rise of anti-Semitism here at home and around the world today.

Mobile Casework Hours in Fairfield

My casework team is continuing their mobile outreach across the district and will be at the Fairfield Municipal Council Chambers from 12:00-2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 10 to assist anyone who is having trouble with a federal agency. Federal Grant Coming to NJ-11 Company For Drug Overdose Treatment Research

I am proud to share that Chatham-based Tonix Pharmaceuticals will be receiving a Department of Health and Human Services federal grant to continue their research into a potentially life-saving treatment for cocaine overdose. The research Tonix is pursuing is a bright light in our shared goal of reducing overdose deaths and harm as we continue to battle the crisis in substance use disorders in New Jersey and across the country, which has only been compounded by the pandemic.
