Jack, this week's primary election brought a Trumpster election denier one step closer to taking over election administration in Arizona, an emerging swing state. Mark Finchem, a Trump endorsee, won the Republican primary for secretary of state—a crucial post in a state that President Biden carried by just over 10,000 votes out of more than 3 million cast.
Trump's endorsement here isn't a coincidence. One of the most terrifying aspects of Trump's attempt to steal the 2020 election is also one of the most underreported: He's learned from his mistakes. Trump and his allies have been pushing far-right election deniers in key races this year to seize control of the very infrastructure of our democracy, and Fichem is just the latest to make it through his primary.
To put it simply: Trump knows where he went wrong trying to steal the 2020 election and he's working to get people like Mark Finchem in office so he can steal the election in 2024—this time, successfully.
I am not exaggerating when I say the future of the country could hinge on a small number of secretary of state elections this year. These offices are responsible for election administration in these states but are mostly overlooked by big donors and national groups. As a result, even small contributions can have a big impact, delivering big bang for your buck. That's why I'm asking you to give $1 to each of these Daily Kos-endorsed Democrats running for secretary of state in six swing states.
